Fraud: EFCC captures a corper, others, obtains N8.7m, and seizes cars

Adetuberu Adetoyese, a member of the National Youth Service Corps serving in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, was detained by agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission's Ilorin Zonal Command on suspicion of cybercrime. Adetoyese, 28, was detained in Ogele, Eyenkorin in the Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State.


He was originally from Ilesa in the Ilesa West Local Government Area of Osun State. Wilson Uwajuaren, the EFCC's head of media and publicity, said in a statement on Thursday that the suspect's arrest came as a result of reliable information on Internet fraudsters' activities in the Ilorin metropolis and its surroundings.


A laptop, an iPhone 11 Promax, a Samsung S9 Plus, a Lexus automobile valued at N4 million, and other items were purportedly found on the suspect. The EFCC continued, "During the course of the investigation, Adetoyese disclosed that he had entered Yahoo Yahoo in 2016 and had, among other things, built a house and funded himself in school with the proceeds of the criminal activities.


The EFCC further stated that agents of the organization detained two additional suspected fraudsters in separate operations at various places in Ilorin.


"Muhammed Soliu and aluminum fabricator Olayiwola Saheed are the suspects. Muhammed, 25, admitted during questioning that he joined Yahoo-Yahoo in 2020 and that he specialized in dating/love scams. He said that with the money earned from the unlawful operations, he had built a house and purchased a Toyota Camry for N2.


7 million. The statement said, "By the same token, Olayiwola, 30, who claimed to be a "loader" in the Yahoo-Yahoo company, admitted to having purchased a Toyota Camry for over N2 million with the proceeds of the alleged crime.
