AGRICULTURE:FG establishes a machinery institute in Nasarawa to ensure food sufficiency.

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, on behalf of the Federal Government, has started building the Agricultural Machinery and Equipment Development Institute in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, in an effort to ensure the nation's food security. Speaking at the institute's groundbreaking ceremony, the Executive Vice-Chairman of NASENI, Mohammed Haruna, said the decision to locate AMEDI in Nasarawa was made as part of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.

), who directed the agency to use technology to revolutionize farming and food processing.

He said that NASENI had been successful in creating certain useful tools and machinery for use throughout the entire agricultural value chain, including cultivation, planting, weeding, harvesting, post-harvesting, and food preservation. As directed by President Muhammadu Buhari for the Presidential Implementation Committee, "This institute is intended to build on this success and act as a pilot location for the implementation of the agreement between Nigeria and the Czech Republic on agriculture.

NASENI and AMEDI Lafia will conduct research, create tools, and train both regular Nigerians and professionals in the fields of agriculture, food production, harvest and post-harvest, processing technologies, food preservation, and packaging while collaborating with the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic.

In addition, it will convert agricultural waste into sustainable energy, according to the NASENI Executive Vice-Chairman.

Ibrahim Gambari, the President's Chief of Staff, who was speaking in his place and was represented by Abdullahi Omaki, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Development Strategies, promised that the current administration would keep using science and technology to advance agriculture in the nation.

For his part, Abdullahi Sule, the governor of Nasarawa State, praised the Federal Government for establishing AMEDI, Lafia, saying the initiative sought to generate wealth and reduce poverty in the nation.

He explained, "This project is designed to turn the agricultural sector into an industrial hub by creating jobs, empowering youth, and acquiring skills for value addition. "It is important to note that the Federal Government's involvement in the planning and location of this project is based on the assumption that Advanced Manufacturing Technology drives 80% of the global economy.

"I am pleased to announce that NASENI also established the North Central Skill Development Center in the state's Keffi Local Government Area.

These initiatives would be crucial in transforming our beloved state into a business hub and will undoubtedly increase the pool of skilled workers available to meet the surge of businesses and organizations that have expressed interest in operating there. "Let me also commend Prof.

Mohammed Haruna, Executive Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive of NASENI, one of our distinguished sons, for his visionary leadership and for helping to create the Agricultural Machinery and Equipment Development Institute in Lafia. This action will live on forever in the sands of time.
