Today Is A Queen's Day: Legendary Clarion Chukwurah Celebrates Her Birthday
It’s 24 July and Nollywood royalty is in the spotlight. Veteran actress and humanitarian Chief Clarion Chukwurah is celebrating her birthday today.
Born Clara Nneka Oluwatoyin Folashade Chukwurah on 24 July 1964 in Lagos, the Anambra-born star is the only daughter in a family of four.<br><br><br> She had her early education in Lagos and Queen of the Rosary College, Onitsha, before studying acting and speech at the Department of Dramatic Arts, Obafemi Awolowo University.
Clarion started acting in 1980 but shot to fame with the soap opera Mirror in the Sun.<br><br><br> She made history as the first Nigerian to win Best Actress at the 1982 FESPACO film festival in Burkina Faso. Over the years she has featured in classics like Glamour Girls 2, Abuja Connection, Egg of Life, Days of Bondage, Apaye, Amina, Covenant and Nneoma.<br><br><br> On TV, fans know her from Ripples, Super Story and Delilah.
Beyond acting, she serves as a United Nations peace ambassador for her charity work across Africa.
In her personal life, she is the proud mother of music video director Clarence Peters with Juju legend Sir Shina Peters.<br><br><br> She married Anthony Boyd in 2016 — her third marriage — and embraced the Jehovah’s Witnesses faith. She was previously married to Tunde Abiola and Femi Odeneye.
Her mantle is heavy with honors: Ada Eji Eje Mba I of Onitsha, Legends of Nollywood award, AMAA Best Actress, Golden Icons Lifetime Achievement Award, and many more.<br><br><br>
