Six suspected bandits were killed on Tuesday after security forces thwarted an attempted attack on Kanoma Town and Gidan Daji Village in Kanoma District, Maru LGA, Zamfara State.

Zamfara Police spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, said a large group of armed bandits invaded the communities around 11 a.<br><br><br>m. with RPGs, GPMGs, anti-aircraft guns, and AK-47 rifles. A joint team of police tactical operatives, military personnel from Operation Fansar Yamma, VCRU operatives, and local vigilantes responded to a distress call.<br><br><br>

Abubakar said the team engaged the assailants in a gun duel, forcing them to retreat. Six bandits riding two motorcycles were neutralized. Several others escaped into nearby forests with suspected gunshot wounds. No security personnel or residents were killed.

Security has been reinforced in the area with sustained patrols to reassure residents and track fleeing suspects.<br><br><br> Abubakar urged residents to keep providing timely, actionable intelligence.

The operation comes less than 24 hours after security forces repelled another bandit attack in a two-hour gun battle along Gadar Manya, Anka LGA.<br><br><br>
