By Tochukwu Ibeh TA to ES/CEO, IMSHIA The Imo State Health Insurance Agency (IMSHIA) has received a Merit Award of Excellence from the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Imo State Chapter.


The award was presented to the Agency on Wednesday, 30th April 2025, at the Labour House, New Owerri. In his remark, the Chairman of the NLC Imo State Chapter, Comrade Uche Chigaemezu, expressed satisfaction and joy with the manner in which the Imo State Health Insurance Agency, under Dr.


Uchenna Ewelike's leadership, has ensured transparency, accountability, and improved value for money in the implementation of the health insurance program for Imo State civil servants including the Local Government staff.


Comrade Uche noted that the scheme has brought significant relief to civil servants and helped secure their health, which is essential for a productive workforce. In appreciation, the Executive Secretary of Imo State Health Insurance Agency, Dr.


Uchenna Ewelike, thanked the Imo State Labour Union for the recognition and celebration of the Agency’s efforts. He highlighted that since the activation of access to care for the 37,323 civil servants enrolled in the Agency's database by November 1st 2023 following their payment of health insurance premium by the Governor of Imo State, the Imo State Health Insurance Agency has treated and provided major health interventions for over 17,000 civil servants, including numerous surgical procedures noting that the program implementation has ensured drastic reductions in out of pockets expenditures on health for state and local government civil servants in Imo state.


Dr. Ewelike further remarked that the Agency, saddled with the responsibility of ensuring value for money in program implementation, successfully designed an innovative referral nexus that guarantees swift medical interventions and improved service delivery across the rural communities in Imo State.


The pragmatic Chief Executive Officer, Dr Uchenna Ewelike therefore dedicated the award to the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator (Dr) Hope Uzodimma, for his unwavering commitment to the health and wellbeing of Imo State workers.
